Dyslexia Screening
We offer 2 types of screening for dyslexia.
A consultation only will determine if your child fits the dyslexia profile based solely on an in-depth records review, examination of current schoolwork samples, and information shared by you in a phone interview. If so, recommendations for tutoring and accommodations will be provided.
A Consultation plus Screening and Short Written Report will determine if your child fits the dyslexia profile based on an in-depth records review, examination of current schoolwork samples, information shared by you in a phone interview, plus the administration administer and scoring of 9 informal screening tools to determine if your child fits the dyslexia profile and has weaknesses in the areas listed in the research-based definition of dyslexia. Results of the screening will be reviewed in a face-to-face meeting with you, and you will leave with a concise 12 -15 page written report that lists the results, my conclusion, and recommendations for tutoring and classroom accommodations.
Please note that this is an informal screening and does not include an intelligence test or any of the normed standardized tests that are typically required to qualify for special ed services or to receive a formal diagnosis of Reading Disorder or Learning Disability. The consultation cannot be used in a court of law or to force someone into paying for tutoring.
However, the dyslexia consultation process will determine, with a high degree of accuracy, whether or not your child fits the classic profile of dyslexia, and if so, will reveal which type of research-based intervention is needed. This consultation is solely for dyslexia, and will not identify any additional conditions your child may have.

"My son had difficulty spelling since early childhood, but we never realized the full extent until 3rd grade when it became abundantly clear that he was below average. It was frustrating to see him achieve above average in all other subjects and yet not be able to master basic phonetics. His primary care physician recommended experts and my own interventions at home were fruitless. Almost at the point of giving up I decided to research online based on my own observations and I learnt about dyslexia and where I could find help and support. Signing up for an evaluation with Betty Macomber was one of the best decisions we made for our son. From the onset we developed confidence in her abilities and experience due to her knowledge of dyslexia, patience and also her resourcefulness. We have made the decision to tutor my son at home and I know that Betty will continue to be a big part of it." ~ Betty O.
